Proclamations

Proverbs 4:18 states: “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day” (New American Standard Bible).

I love the prophetic! We recently had a prophet visit our church. He prophesied to us with a depth of discernment I have rarely heard. It was wonderful to receive renewed clarity, affirmation and vision with such depth and accuracy. His words spoke to my heart and rang true with my spirit.

I’m reminded of how much we are influenced by the words and opinions of others. This, of course, comes throughout our life in experiences with family, friends, church and others. Even we ourselves can influence our hearts through established beliefs . . . good or bad. It is up to us (with the help of the Holy Spirit) to sift through and retain what’s true and what God has said to us regarding His direction and purposes for our life. It’s an ongoing process.

Recently, I was listening to a few clients who shared their disappointment regarding the choices their children made. They believed for a certain outcome for their children’s lives. Another couple expressed frustration about a ministry door that closed for them. They were sure God promised it to them.

Upon further discussion, the disenchanted, but well-meaning parents revealed that the vision they had hoped for their children was not the same as God’s plan. The ministry couple realized they assumed God was taking them through the next door, because it was like what they had experienced; whereas, God was establishing a completely different direction for them.

It’s so easy to add our personal interpretation to dreams, visions and promises from God. We all do it. I’m guilty, too! In fact, there have been times when I looked for validation to what I believed was true. I found myself making proclamations according to my understanding of what I thought God had said. This can be a downhill path.

But, God always gives us clarity! The Word encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

When we know and truly believe God always has good things for us, we can confidently call upon Him for wisdom and direction. This seems so simple, but oftentimes we miss it! Remember Jonah and his observation and judgment of doom for Nineveh? It took a whale to convince him that he had the wrong idea. I’m so thankful that God can and does speak to us through the Holy Spirit who lives within us. Jonah was not so fortunate.

This year is a new season, a new beginning. If we believe God’s best is always His intention for us, we can walk in freedom from fear of the unknown. We can stand on the promises and purpose He has for our lives. I love the promise given to us from Isaiah 43:19: “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

May God establish His will in your life this New Year. May you rest in knowing He has only good for you. May your words and proclamations confirm God’s path that “shines brighter and brighter until the full day” for your life!
